Christmas comes to Woodley!
Christmas Lights Switch On – Saturday 23rd November
Please come along to the annual Lights Switch On and Carol Concert in Woodley Town Centre. It’s the beginning of Christmas in Woodley!
Free bus travel on the six Saturdays leading up to Christmas
Wokingham Borough Council will offer free bus travel on the six Saturdays leading up to Christmas and for two festive events, with costs to be covered using funding from the Department for Transport.
This means that all those boarding local bus services from bus stops in the borough on the six Saturdays leading up to Christmas, as well as for Wokingham Winter Carnival and Woodley Christmas Extravaganza, will travel for free.

Working together to tackle the Climate Emergency
Woodley Town Touncil is delighted to be working in partnership with Wokingham Borough Council to organise a series of free events as part of our first Climate Action Week (18 to 23 November)
Both Woodley Town and Wokingham Borough councils declared climate emergencies in 2019. The Town Council has committed to achieving carbon neutral status as an organisation by 2030, as has the Borough Council who also have a responsibility for reducing the carbon footprint of the borough as a whole.
Climate Action Week will see a variety of events taking place online and in person in order to raise awareness of how residents can contribute positively towards these shared goals.
Cllr Juliet Anderson, Woodley Town Mayor, said: “It is important that we all play our part in addressing the climate emergency and take accountability for our individual carbon footprints as, collectively, we can make a real difference. Working with the borough council to provide Woodley’s first Climate Action Week provides a great opportunity for us all to access information and take part in interactive sessions to learn more about personal actions accessible to us all.”
Cllr Jordan Montgomery, executive member for environment and climate emergency for the borough council, said: “We are thrilled to be working in partnership with Woodley Town Council to put a spotlight on the climate emergency. Everyone can and should be involved in helping us to achieve the ambitions we’ve set out, and this week will be a fun and engaging way for our two councils to get that message across in a way that both inspires and informs. We also want this week to showcase how we work successfully with our towns and parishes.”
Climate Action Week will have added significance, as the week coincides with the 2024 UN Climate Change Conference (COP 29), which runs from 11 to 22 November in Azerbaijan.
All events are free to attend and open to residents across Wokingham Borough, with booking required in some cases. Several of the events provide complimentary refreshments; please see each individual event.
In addition to these public events, the two councils will be working with pupils from Woodley primary schools to create a shared climate project, which will then be displayed at the Oakwood Centre. Libraries across the borough will also have featured book displays with suggested reading on topics relating to the climate emergency.

Youth provision engagement events
We are delighted to be funding two youth activity sessions for young people aged 11-18 years old, run by Berkshire Youth
The events are part of a Council-led project to engage with Woodley’s young people in order to get their thoughts and ideas about our future youth provision offering.
Both events are open to young people aged 11-18 years old, are free, and there is no need to book. Please just turn up and enjoy, as well as taking the opportunity for young people to Have their Say on youth services in Woodley.

Annual Town Meeting 23 May 2024
Each year, we host our Annual Town Meeting for the electors living in Woodley to find out about Council activities and to make statements on relevant matters.
When & where
This year, we are holding the Annual Town Meeting on Thursday 23rd May, 7-9pm, in the Alan Cornish Theatre at the Oakwood Centre.
Community Heroes Awards
The evening will start with the presentation of our Community Heroes Awards to local individuals and organisations in recognition of exceptional service to the town.
Climate Emergency
This will be followed by a presentation from guest speakers from Wokingham Borough Council’s Climate Emergency team providing on climate change, and what residents can do to play their part in tackling the crisis.
Resident’s Forum
Electors will have the opportunity to raise any issues and concerns with Councillors, as their elected representatives, on any topic, activity or subject matter they believe to be affecting Woodley.
Cheese & wine reception
The meeting will conclude with a cheese and wine reception.

Join Woodley Town Mayor, Cllr Janet Sartorel, and Woodley Town Deputy Mayor, Cllr Juliet Anderson for a quiz night to raise money for the Mayor’s chosen charity:
Woodley Lunch Bunch
- The event opens at 7pm, with a prompt quiz start at 7.30pm
- £6 per ticket (plus booking fee)
- Teams of up to 8 per table
- Cash bar on the night with nibbles on all tables
- Raffle tickets can also be purchased with cash to win some fantastic prizes! (£1 per ticket/£5 per strip)
