Woodley Town Council is proud to launch its Community Climate Action Week on Saturday 15 November, bringing residents together under the theme: Together for Tomorrow – Local Action, Global Impact. The week is a call to action for the whole community to Be The Change; to take part, learn, and discover how local efforts can make a lasting difference on a global scale.

Saturday’s opening day is set to be an inspiring showcase of community spirit, creativity, and conversation.

Be the Change – Community Litter Pick

10am-12pm

Oakwood Centre, Woodley

Take part in Woodley’s Community Litter Pick with Woodley Adopt A Street (WASP), because small actions create big change. All equipment is provided. Volunteers will meet at the Oakwood Centre and then head out in groups to help tidy up Woodley’s streets. By coming together to care for our shared spaces, we reduce pollution, protect wildlife, and show pride in our community. Booking is essential in order to organise groups. FREE tea & coffee! Wear the Change – Charity Fashion Show

1-2pm

Centre Stage, Woodley Town Centre

Step into sustainable style at our fashion show hosted and organised by Thames Hospice Woodley shop, featuring pre-loved outfits from its store in the town centre, with help from Waingels’ students. This exciting event proves fashion doesn’t have to cost the earth. With every outfit, we celebrate recycling, reimagining, and reducing waste. No booking required – just turn up and enjoy! FREE tea, coffee, and hot chocolate!

Voice the Change – Local Action, Global Impact

3-5pm

Oakwood Centre, Woodley

Join us for a powerful community conversation on climate, featuring Woodley Town Council’s initiatives, advice on how to afford climate change from Citizens Advice Wokingham, and the much-anticipated talk by Professor Chris Merchant, Professor in Ocean and Earth Observation at the University of Reading. Professor Merchant’s presentation, Our Climate Future, will unpack the key science and facts behind global warming, why it matters, and how every voice can help shape change. The event includes a Q&A session and FREE tea, coffee, and cake. Booking is essential as there are limited tickets available. Click HERE to book.

Sunday 16 November

Dr Bike Repairs & Bike Marking

10am-12pm

Woodford Park Leisure Centre, Woodley

Get your bike checked, fixed, and ready to roll by Dr Bike, with MyJourney. Book a slot and Dr Bike will diagnose any issues and if he can, he’ll fix them for FREE!! If there are any parts needed or it’s beyond the scope of the session, he’ll let you know and give you some advice and options to get your bike ready to ride. Thames Valley Police will also be there providing bike marking. Book via the MyJourney website.

Monday 17 November

Woodley Walk

10am-12pm

Oakwood Centre, Woodley

Join our Guided Walk Around Woodley, beginning with a friendly chat over tea and coffee at the Oakwood Centre before heading out to explore a local route around Woodley and find out how easy it is to get around on foot. The walk will last approximately one hour. We will also have walking maps available for anyone wanting to self-guide. Booking essential. FREE tea & coffee! Click HERE to book.

Wokingham Borough Council Energy Advice

10am-12pm

Woodley Library, Woodley

As the weather gets colder and energy use increases, you may be thinking about how to stay warm and reduce your bills.

Wokingham Borough Council is running a Warm Homes drop-in session at Woodley library during Climate Action week. This is a free informal event where you can speak to someone in person about:

  • Saving energy in your home
  • Reducing your energy bills
  • Finding out what support is available 

You don’t need to book, just drop in and say hello.

Tuesday 18 November

Repair Shop & Advice Hub

2-5pm

Oakwood Centre, Woodley

Repair Café with fix-it stations, in association with Woodley Repair Café and an energy advice hub from Citizens Advice Wokingham. Bring along your broken or worn items and give them a new lease of life. This is more than a repair session, it’s a community hub for action and advice. You can also find out how you can save energy, cut costs, and live more sustainably – without spending more. Please book for the Repair Cafe so we can have the right repairers and tools there. No need to book for the Energy Advice Hub – just come along. FREE tea & coffee!

Recycled Art Workshop

10am-12pm

Oakwood Centre, Woodley

Join our Recycled Art Workshop led by local artist Jo Wyles, where your pre-school eco-heroes will have fun creating adorable animal friends from recycled egg boxes. This hands-on workshop shows how something simple can be reused and transformed, helping them to contribute towards a more sustainable world. Booking essential. FREE tea & coffee! Climate Cinema

11am-2pm

Alan Cornish Theatre, Oakwood Centre, Woodley

Settle into our theatre and watch inspiring and thought-provoking short documentaries and films exploring climate change. This is a drop-in session and is suitable for all ages. FREE tea & coffee.
