Burglary and Fraud Community Conference

Thames Valley Police invite you to a local community conference designed to help tackle burglary and fraud in the area.

Please join us on Saturday 12 May between 10:30am and 1pm at the Oakwood Community Centre.

Here you will have the opportunity to meet with our officers and partners, including Wokingham Borough Council and Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue, to gain information and advice on how to reduce the risk of becoming a victim.

From 11am there will be a range of specialist speakers who will be providing an insight into these issues. These include Detective Inspector Gavin Tyrell, Head of Fraud from City of London Police and Detective Constable Boyd from Wokingham Local Burglary Squad.

We look forward to seeing you at the event.

Works in Woodford Park

Visitors to Woodford Park will have seen lots of activity over the last few weeks;

  • The Friends of Woodford Park are working in the Rotary Garden behind the Oakwood Centre, pruning shrubs and preparing new sensory shrub beds. The Council’s Grounds Team are also preparing the ground in the garden and other areas for wild flowers.

  • Overgrown areas around the lake have been cut back back by the Grounds Team as part of the lake regeneration project. This includes removal of the overgrown hedge along the mound at the eastern end of the lake. This has let lots of light onto the lake at this end and we have frog spawn in the lake for what we think is the first time in over 30 years. Tree works have been carried out by a contractor which included the removal of some trees that were in poor condition and/or were damaging the lake and island banks. We will be creating new habitat on the islands with shrubs and duck nesting boxes made from the logs of any trees that are felled. We are awaiting the outcome of a funding bid to carry out the next stage of the project which will include the creation of a shallow wildlife area, boardwalk and dipping platform, reed beds, native flowering plants and repairs to the lake banks. Click Here for more information on the lake regeneration project.

  • The old horticultural shed has been replaced with the new Woodley Pre School building. The school has leased the land from the Council and will operate from the new building from April 2018.
