The National Travel Survey for England assessed that, in recent years, 57.5% of all journeys by car or van were less than 5 miles.

Choosing to make your journey by bicycle, instead of by car or public transport, is an obvious way to reduce the carbon footprint associated with your travel. Cycling is cheap, good for your health and fitness, and the environment.

My Journey (Wokingham Borough Council)

My Journey is a borough-wide active travel and sustainable transport campaign, managed by Wokingham Borough Council, which aims to help and inspire residents to travel via alternative modes of transport.

Their website provides cycling and walking route maps, as well as other helpful information relating to buying and owning a bike.

Better still, the Better Points app, also available as part of the My Journey campaign, rewards you for travelling sustainably, by foot, bike or public transport; automatically tracking your journeys and awarding points which can be converted into high street vouchers or donated to charity.

Dr Bike

Dr Bike provides free bike checks to residents, regularly running session at our very own Woodford Park Leisure Centre.

You can find the latest dates of his sessions on the My Journey Events page.

Cycling UK

If you are considering starting, or even getting back into cycling, then Cycling UK provides advice on what you might need to buy and do before setting out on your first journey.

The site also provides help with route planning, details of cycling groups and events, and information on safety and insurance

Love To Ride

With the use of an app, Love to Ride – Wokingham helps cyclists in the area to track bike miles and carbon savings, as well as encourage individuals to ride more often.

App users can take part in competitions, and are awarded points and even prizes for their achievements.

The website also provides information on local rides for new riders.
