Citizens' Awards - General

Woodley Town Council have initiated an Award to recognise the great amount of work done by local people in caring for others in the community. The following are examples of the kind of service the Council would like to reward:

  • Caring for children or the elderly
  • Voluntary work
  • Being a good neighbour
  • Working with young people.

However, this list is not finite and other examples would be welcomed. The Council would particularly welcome nominations for an award for young good citizens, aged 18 and under.

The awards are usually made in the spring each year - nominations are invited from January.

Forms are available from the Town Council offices (0118 969 0356).

Citizens Awards 2010

The voluntary work of three local residents was recognised at the Councilıs
annual Citizens Awards ceremony in April. Town Mayor, Kay Gilder, hosted the
event to which the awards recipients, their guests and representatives from
local community groups and organisations were invited. Councillor Gilder
said she was delighted to be able to present the awards on behalf of the
Council and that she believed that our community was very fortunate to have
so many people who give their time freely to help others and provide
activities. This was one of the features of the town that made it such a
good place to live.

Pictured with the Mayor (from left to right) are:

to develop a plan for the townıs future.

Janice Jackson who has been an adult supporter and leader in Woodley
Scouting for over 25 years and an active member of the Woodley British Red
Cross for 20 years. Janice runs Beavers, Cubs and Scouts sections and has
organised many activities over the years, including UK and international

Sue Karsten who has been one of the main movers behind St James Church for
over 40 years. Sue played a part in raising the funds to build the church
and for it to be extended later to provide a community facility. Sue is
